Australia Day

So my family has much to celebrate every Australia Day as one of my younger sisters is in fact born on Australia Day. So it is always a time of birthday celebrations for our family complete with ice cream birthday cake before lunchtime!

However many people love Australia Day as a time to come together and share a meal, enjoy the wonderful, hopefully not too hot weather and if you are very lucky take in some fireworks and free entertainment in and around Perth.

Check these sites for some entertainment options and fireworks if you are lucky.

Also something a little different if you love your music we have a national radio station called Triple J and every Australia Day they broadcast “The Hottest 100” taken from their audience voting on what they believe where the best songs released in the past 12 months. People host parties and have the radio pumping, it’s a fun way to spend the day if music is your “thing”

What is Australia day all about?

Australia Day, 26 January, is the anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet. This was made up of 11 convict ships from Great Britain. Australia Day marks the first raising of the Union Jack (The British Flag) at Sydney Cove by its commander Captain Arthur Phillip, in 1788.

Its all about the food

But seriously; lets talk food, many people love the time to BBQ meat and seafood, have a lazy brunch or picnic. There are a few items people might indulge in, I am partial to a home made pavlova, other people will swear by their mothers sausage rolls, lamingtons or a dish from their homeland. One site has put together a few recipes.

But honestly you choose what makes you happy and helps you; your loved ones and friends celebrate living in Australia.

Happy Australia Day!
